Dropbox passwords allegedly leaked

It has been reported that hundreds of passwords belonging to Dropbox users have been leaked online. This coming with hackers threatening to release millions more accounts in exchange for bitcoins.

In response to these allegations Dropbox was quick to the mark in explaining that the passwords and usernames were not taken from Dropbox’s servers and instead were unfortunately from other websites and were being used in attempts to log into Dropbox accounts. They had this to say:

“We’d previously detected these attacks and the vast majority of the passwords posted have been expired for some time now. All other remaining passwords have been expired as well.”
