Staples to investigate theft of payment information

In the recent weeks the US government has called for a swift move towards chip-and-pin technology (following the UK and several other countries). This being after an increasingly long line of US retailers have fallen victim to hackers. Some stores are already making the first few steps towards this by gradually moving from the magnetic strip payment method towards a more secure chip and pin method.

A security researcher from the US recently reported that:

“Multiple banks say they have identified a pattern of credit and debit card fraud suggesting that several Staples Inc. office supply locations in north-eastern United States are currently dealing with a data breach.”

In response Staples released a statement saying:

“Staples is in the process of investigating a potential issue involving credit card data and has contacted law enforcement.
